Bees United, The Brentford Supporters’ Trust, was the majority shareholder in Brentford Football Club from January 2006 to June 2012. Whilst the majority shareholding transferred to long-term Bees supporter, Matthew Benham, in June 2012, Bees United continues to hold a Golden Share, which will enable it to protect the status of Brentford FC as a local professional football club with ownership and control over its stadium. Bees United will be able to prevent the selling of the stadium to the long term disadvantage of Brentford FC and for short term gain to the shareholders.
As an Industrial and Provident Society set up for community benefit, the Trust is one of a family of more than 150 such organisations, that have been set up to promote supporter involvement in and community ownership of football clubs. The Supporters’ Trust movement has been overseen by Supporters Direct the national umbrella body, formed in 2001 following the recommendations of the Government’s Football Task Force which investigated all aspects of football in this country. - BIAS – Brentford Independent Association of Supporters – www.bias.org.uk
BIAS is an Independent Association of Supporters (it would have been an Independent Supporters Association, but the acronym wasn’t as snappy). BIAS was formed in the twilight of Dave Webb’s reign at Griffin Park, in recognition of the need for fans to unite in order to protect the future of their club, and to register our anger when we see it mismanaged. - Brentford FC Community Sports Trust – www.brentfordfccst.com
